I learned a great deal from the course. One of the interesting things that I’ve did during the course is complete an emotional intelligence test. I would say that my reaction towards the test would simply be surprised at the results. The reason for being is because I scored at having good (EI) whereas I thought that I typically overreact due to others opinion. My siblings and mother would always tell me that things that are so easy to resolve I tend to think that it’s complicated and over think it, and the things that’s a challenge for me, I find it easy to accomplish or resolve easily. So, I would say that I found the emotional intelligence test to be quite interesting. Emotional intelligence connects significantly to my assigned readings, the reason why is because, emotional intelligence connects to Human behavior, how we understand and reason. During middle childhood is a period when thoughts become more expansive and emotions more controlled Hutchinson, E. (2019). This is also an important period during middle childhood because children are now able to organize and articulate emotional experiences, have cognitive control of emotional arousal, use social comparison and the compacity to tolerate conflicting feelings (Davies, 2011, pp. 360-363). Inability to perceive and use emotions leads to poor decision-making skills associated with negative outcomes deviant behaviors, poor relationships with family and friends, illegal drugs, and alcohol use (Brackett, Mayer, & Warner, 2004). A lack of (EI) could increase prosocial and antisocial behaviors, which may lead to unconscious decision-making skills due to a lack of (EI). An individual who lacks the skill of emotional intelligence is more subject to Lower EI scores were correlated with poor coping strategies, and a person’s poor coping strategies in turn predicted one’s ability to involve themselves in alcohol and other drug problems. As a result, one’s ability to accurately express, perceive, recognize, and regulate emotional expressions was a predictor of whether the person had alcohol and other substance or drug abuse. Freud believed that people could be cured by making conscious their unconscious thoughts and motivations through gaining insight (Davies, 4). Meaning that if we took the time out to think before we react in certain situations this could cure our unconscious thoughts and behaviors and allow us to make much more reasonable choices in life instead of making poor-decision making skills while thinking unconscious. Emotional intelligence tests can also revel personalities and children who are more prone to becoming high school dropouts and criminal offenders. Children can be taught to become more emotionally intelligent, which enables them to be more successful in life. Children with special needs too can develop emotional intelligence to be emotionally aware, insightful regarding understanding other’s emotions (Kumar, 2012, p. 62). Emotional intelligence enhances empathy, people who have empathy for others they work with or in a relationship with, perform better and have better relationships. Sensitivity could also enhance a person’s ability to become more emotional intelligent based off their observations and awareness skills. This interpersonal vigilance and sensitivity may indeed make them more emotionally intelligent in terms of their observation/awareness skills (Furnham, & Rosen, 2016). Parents who are sensitive to emotional needs of their children typically raise emotionally intelligent children, a more positive environment in the family and consequently better

development of emotional skills (Lekavicinene, & Antiniene, 2016). Since family plays a significant role in the development of a personality in the childhood, it is very important to find out, what are the exact social and psychological family factors that are the most essential for the development of emotional intelligence. The importance of emotional intelligence ties between parent and children is proven by many studies. Researchers confirm that there is a relation between parents’ capability to control emotions and such ability development in children (Cumberland-Li, Eisenberg, Campion, Gershoff, & Fabes, 2003). That parent emotional intelligence has an impact on emotional development of children.

. Emotional intelligence is necessary for all professions because it increases awareness to manage ourselves and relationships. (EI) not only as a defining feature plays a pivotal role in motivating individuals to learn but also it exerts a powerful influence over the learning procedure (Gholami, 2015). Although how we learn, and social learning should be heavily looked at. Because it could influence our behavior in different situations when decision making is involved. The right and wrongs and how to treat others are learned through culture and experience. Cognition plays a significant role in emotional intelligence as well considering that intelligence is a learned skill and not something that we are born with. The reason why cognition play’s a significant role in (EI) is because it refers to making conscious decisions and positive choices. cognition is also essential for understanding other’s, (EI) is also essential to understanding others as well. Without (EI) or cognition we would not be able to make conscious and positive decision instead we would make unconscious and negative decision. When we display unconscious thoughts, this could result in negative thinking and negative reactions which could result in poor decision-making skills the lesser (EI) we have the more unreasonable we are. Normally fear, anger, and sadness are of little use, or at least are an obstacle to reasoning and a hindrance to healthy human relationships (Oberst, 2015).

There are several factors that could result in women wanting to terminate their pregnancies,

Some may include medical complications with mother and or unborn baby, substance abuse, molestation, HIV, rape, incarceration, and some women have simply made a mistake. These are a few reasons why I believe women would consider abortion. I would have to say that this have everything do with giving up the personal freedom to have a baby by abortion, this tells us that our bodies are ours and that women have the final say so to give life or not, that it’s a choice. This could have a huge impact on a child or an adult, this could lead to depression or even mental health related issued especially for a child who’s brain is still developing, this could be considered to be a traumatic experience.

Working with clients also involves asking relevant questions that lead to other questions in trying to understand and making sense of their situations. Personally, this would allow me to understand the upbringing of the individual as well as the background of the family. This could also allow me to understand the client from a culture and religion aspect as well.

I would like to learn more about the way that children reason and the interaction between nature and nurture. The reason for being is because children learn from their nature (biology) and nurture (environment) and this could influence their behaviors and our ability to adapt to our environment Ivan Pavlov’s theory of Classical Conditioning believed that classical conditioning is one way that all organisms learn to adapt to their environment. Pavlov experimented with dogs, He gave them a stimulus and a reward at the same time. This caused the dogs to act in a certain way toward the stimulus whether the reward was there or not. The dogs were conditioned to act based on what they had learned (Rehman 114). So, this would be something that I would like to learn more about as it relates to children. Sure, the reaction motivates me as a social worker to make connections between and among course materials related in working with and assessing a client, I would say that I’m motivated to understand diversity and various backgrounds.
