Nursing Home Setting

A nursing home is a facility for the members of the society care of disabled or elderly individuals. It may also be known as skilled nursing facility, care homes, convalescent care, long-term care facilities convalescent homes, old people’s home or rest homes (Debbie Tolson, 2015). Nursing homes are utilized by individuals who do not require to be in a hospital, but they cannot be cared for at home. The nurses in charge of nursing home care facility have a duty of caring of caring for the medical needs of the client and also the duty of being in charge of other employees depending on their line. There has been a growing rate of the aging or older people which is bringing about the need of more healthcare organizations. Still, the need for nursing homes is still growing. With this trend there have been growing number of nursing homes that are deliberated to deliver different services the old population in the society.

For a nursing home to run effectively many staff members with various skill sets are needed to come together. A nursing home has different departments that are; social services, head of the business, kitchen, recreation, dietary and admissions departments (James Rosado, 2019). The basic task of a nurse who works in a nursing home is to care for the requirements of aged clients. At a primary level, nurses ensure that clients maintain acceptable levels personal hygiene, receive appropriate nutrition and have clean beds. The employees include; registered nurse, nursing assistance and licensed practical nurses. The activities that are in nursing home are meant for the well-being benefits of the patients. Some of these activities are; memory mat, memory care, art projects for the residents, capturing life stories, activity professional career and many others.

Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is using less energy to do the same job that is, eradicating the waste of energy. Energy efficiency results to many benefits that are; lowering cost on the facility and reducing demand for the imports of energy. In nursing home there are many things that can lead to misuse of energy and they can be improved such as laundry and kitchen activities. The mission of this initiative is to create and sustain the nursing home facility energy efficiency to save the facility’s bill. The vision is to have a more efficient consumption of energy in the healthcare setting. One of the a great hinderance in using energy efficiently is the people being unaware that is lack of awareness. It is important and possible to make significant savings in energy consumption and bill in a nursing home, mostly for little cost, by managing the use of energy and using energy efficiently.

Some of the ways where an energy can not be used efficiently are insulation damage or misplaced, heating and hot water thermostats set too high and timer settings altered and windows left open or equipment left on (Rokia Raslan, 2016). There are different ways that a nursing home can do to manage energy which includes; checking equipment use, carrying out energy efficiency study in the facility, including energy efficiency in general maintenance studies, carrying out regular building energy checks and running an energy saving campaign. Some of the outcomes that I expect with this initiative are; identifying no or low-cost savings, when this initiative is implemented the facility uncovers various possible savings. The other outcome that I expect is creating of a more comfortable environment, employing this initiative can have some surprising advantages for the staff, clients and visitors.

Discovering new build opportunities, when the nursing home can reduce the energy consumption, they will begin to upgrade their facility infrastructure. With the improvements of energy efficiency this will reduce the electricity bills while making sure that better or the same levels of comfort for the people. Most of the measures given cost very little and they also pay for themselves in a very short period. Implementing energy efficiency in nursing homes can aid in easing the financial burdens. When the nursing home chooses to become more energy efficient it provides many benefits for the facility. The most convincing is the savings from the reduced energy bills every month. Also, improving energy efficiency in nursing home facility can simplify the management of the facility and help the environment.
