Biking Laws and Safety Tips
· Wear a helmet.
· Yield to pedestrians.
· Use hand signals when safe to communicate with drivers and other cyclists.
· Use bike lanes whenever possible.
· Stay out of the door zone.
· If you are uncomfortable with major arterials, use residential streets.
· Don't ride on sidewalks, dismount and walk your bike.
· Ride predictably in a straight path.
· Use your bell to alert others to your position.
· Obey local traffic laws; do not run stop signs or red lights.
· Don't use your phone or the Bike Share mobile app while riding.
· Become familiar with local biking laws—Detroit requires helmet use and forbids sidewalk riding.
