Topic: Designing a Supply Chain project for Cocoa from Ivory Coast
The supply chain of Cocoa like many other activities within the supply chain which coverts raw materials into finish products for consumers. There are series of activities involved in the supply chain of cocoa seeks to convert the cocoa bean (raw materials) to chocolate (finished product).
As it is in many manufacturing industries, the production of chocolate products in consists of many links, which is separated into two major categories: the producing country (Côte d'Ivoire) and the consuming country (United States)
Côte d'Ivoire is known globally as the world's first-largest producer of Cocoa. This small African nation accounts for over 30% of all cocoa on the world market. Recent statistic shows that the Ivory Coast leads the world in over half a million metric tons of crops totaling 1,448,992 tons. As cocoa manufacturers increase globally at a rapid speed, placing high demand on the commodity and farmers to grow more crops.
The United States is the home of some of the world’s largest confectioneries manufacturers.

As shown in the diagram above, this research aims to examine the supply chain activities of Cocoa with a special interest on top Mars Inc. also known are American Company. Founded in 1911, Mars Inc. continues to grow in strength as an industry leader of some of the world’s famous confection including but not limited to M7M’s Galaxy, Snickers, Skittle and of course their signature Mars bars. This research will be undertaken by applying the qualitative and qualitative methods of doing research and is based on collected interview data and articles about the company in questions.
Some of the theoretical themes that will be covered in this paper include the concept of business, supply chain management theory and looking into details the role of supply chain in the cocoa industry.
