Research Methodology, Design, and Methods
Research methodology involves selecting research design, data collection and data analysis methods based on the scope of the research. This research takes a quantitative research design approach in order to disapprove or prove the stated hypothesis. It will use a non-experimental design, in particular, the correlational research method. It will help measure relationships between two variables providing great insight into the Sun Coast problems. It is the most appropriate for this study as it helps determine the nature and extent of relationships between two variables.
Research Methodology
The non-experimental research design is most appropriate since it does not involve manipulation of people or circumstances involved in the research (Berg & Latin, 2008). It is correlational or descriptive allowing the researcher to describe a relationship or situation without his interference. There is no manipulation of variables or control group of randomly assigned participants. It is also highly flexible and investigative in nature. Again, the research findings can be applied to a broader audience.
Research Design
The research design to be used is descriptive that will enable the researcher to examine a subject to try gain further insight. This method helps describe relationships and characteristics of a sample observed by the researcher (Thyer, 2010). The Sun Coast problem is to do with behavioral research thus allow descriptive design to help describe the basic relationship between variables. The hypothesis formulated for this study are aimed at examining associations and correlations between variables. This will enhance understanding for Sun Coast problems thus recommend meaningful solutions to the problems experienced.
Research Methods
The research methods used for this study will be a combination of descriptive statistics and correlation methods. Correlation method allows the researcher to measure the extent of relation or association between two variables. A number of variables in the Sun Coast case will be measured to examine the extent of their relation. For example, the relation between employee health and number of sick days.
Data Collection Methods
The data for this study were most likely collected through records analysis. The records of say, sick days, were obtained from records stored by Sun Coast. Mathematical calculations of various formats such as mean and regression were used for the data as illustrated in the excel document.
Sampling Design
The sampling design most likely used is random sampling that gave each participant equal chance for selection as a subject for the study. This sampling method is advantageous in terms of ease of assembling of participants as well as acts as a representative of the population.
Data Analysis Procedures
The statistical procedures used to test the set of hypotheses vary from regression to correlation to ANOVA to t test. The RQ1 hypotheses is best tested through t test since the interest is on employee health before exposure to toxic work environment and after exposure to the toxic work environment. The RQ2 hypotheses is best tested through correlation to examine whether or not a relationship exists between employee health and the number of sick days. The RQ3 hypotheses is also best tested through correlation to examine the association between physically demanding jobs and workplace injuries. The RQ4 uses regression testing to determine the association between workplace injuries and worker compensation and litigation. The RQ5 hypotheses is best tested using regression to examine the association between safety training costs and company costs. Lastly, RQ6 is also best tested using regression to examine the relation between safety training and working hours.
