To improve their business, Sun Coast had to complete an assessment of various aspects of the company and organized their findings in a detailed manner. Multiple methods were used in facilitating the multiple techniques for the identified areas of concern in this company. Different search engines were used to get scholarly peer-reviewed research articles. These included EBOSC, Google scholar, GALE, among others. The keywords used during this research included ANOVA, T-Test, correlation, and regression.
The authors of this article Ketchman and Bilec, were students and staff members in Pittsburg University during this study. The latter was a Ph.D. Student of civil environmental engineering while the latter was an assistant professor in the same institution's civil engineering department. The study's primary aim was to quantify the particulate matter between 10 and 2.5 microns and the emission produced through excavation (Ketchman, & Bilec, 2013). This would help to understand why Pittsburg continuously be ranked amongst the leaders of PM pollution nationally since 2004 despite there being a lot of efforts aimed at controlling this problem. The authors used life cycle assessment in helping them quantify particulate matter emissions in the construction sites. It was found that the transportation o sol was the major emitter of particulate matter 10-2.5 and 25. This article relates to what Sun coast workers face as most of the job sites had PMs of between 10 to 2.5 microns which is similar to this case.
The study “Improved injury management at an Australian aluminum smelter” was done apart from Viljoen, who was working for Industrial hunter medicine, an occupational medicine practice in Australia, all the other authors worked as faculty of health or department of mathematics various universities (Viljoen, et al., 2010). The authors aimed to determine whether the multiple interventions helped improve injuries within the industrial settings. The authors ensured that there was improved communication between them and the employees to assist in identifying ad eradicating psychosocial barriers while at the same time focusing the workforce on safety and occupational health. The linear regression method evaluated the efficiency of the intervention. The results illustrated that the interventions put in place decreased lost hours by more than 42% in each category. The results of this study are relevant to Sun Coast as if this organization can replicate the interventions used in this case; it can help in reducing the reported hours of lost time 41925 hours (Viljoen, et al., 2010).
The article “exposure among construction electricians” was done by Seixas, et al., (2001). The authors of this article are qualified to conduct this study. Apart from Ren, who was working in the oil and refining company in the United States, all the other authors worked in the environmental health department at Washington's University. The primary role of this study was to the role played by the environment in noise exposure. The researchers monitored four general trades for noise exposure (Seixas, et al., 2001). The study found out that the amount of noise exposure depends on the specific jobs going on in the same vicinity of the worker. This study is relevant to Sun Coast's problem as it highlights the need to protect all the workers in the vicinity rather than only protecting the workers who are performing a particular task.
The authors of this study “Occupational determinants of cumulative lead exposure: Analysis of bone lead among men in the VA normative aging study” are all faculty members in various universities. Their task was aimed at identifying the long-term lead exposure across 14 different occupations. The research was done by using personal medical exams that were taken every three to five weeks (Ji, et al., 2014). There were bone and blood tests done to one thousand three hundred and twenty employees to compare lead amounts between every person's bone and blood. Least regression was used to study the connection between the various professions and bone lead concentration. The study showed that the construction and extractive workers were subject to higher lead exposure. It was identified that there is a direct connection between lead in blood and an individual's occupation. The employees of Sun coast are facing the same issue of lead exposure (Ji, et al., 2014). This illustrates that Sun Coast can use the same criteria of testing the employees to put up protective measures.
The authors of this study “Survey on treatment ability of stabilization pond as a natural treatment system in oil refinery wastewaters” were faculties in various universities in Iran teaching in public health, engineering, and medical science. The study was aimed at investigating and assessing anaerobic ponds that collect wastewater near oil refineries. The study illustrated that the removal efficiency increased significantly by decreasing the phenol levels and increasing the water temperature (Dargahi, et al., 2018). Phenol ad temperature manipulation in the ponds effectively cleaned wastewater by nearly 33 percent. Sun Coast has a problem like this. These results indicate that water reclamation efficiency increases with increasing water temperature and decreasing phenol.
In surmise, all the above research studies made a significant change in the workers' health and safety and the environment. Identifying employees' hazards and safety concerns is the most important step of helping a company to take the necessary measures to minimize or prevent exposure.
