Proposal Critique

University students should be able to attend traditional lectures but this whoever pose as an inhibitor to the learning of the students as well as innovation capacities of the instructors. Research indicates that university students do not learn as much of the chalk and talk based lessons. This basically comes as another way to indicate that the students do not grasp much of the existing traditional learning methods. Thus, if the mandatory attendance policies are eliminated, student instructor incentives would be altered and thus create room for improvement as well as better student learning outcomes.

The issue of concern or “problem”

The fact and the truth are that traditional class or lecture attendances limit the learning outcomes as well as the desired instructor innovation. Setting out this issue of concern is basically in line with the reality and acts as the best topic to be researched further. Additionally, the traditional lectures of chalk and talk put the students in an easy situation making it possible for cramming and forgetting. The issue of concern for this research proposal is straight to the point and therefore it acts as a good ground for research-based improvements which can be made in the normal classroom settings.

Literature review

The literature review done in relation to the issue of concern is as well intensive and comprehensive. However, the literature reviewed should be up to date. Phillip Sanders (1980) for example outlines some literature which in the context of today could be obsolete and thus might not apply in the current context. Though the literature is done and relates well to the issue of concern, more recent literature should be reviewed with an aim of making the work more appealing and relatable. Further, this literature review presumably exhausts most of the available literature with regard to the issue of concern and its validity is assured.

Incentive structures of major players: current

The incentives outlined herein are facts which depict the current situation of the learner-instructor inherent obligations or rather feelings and views.

Policy proposal

From the policy proposal, it can be seen that the issue of concern is actually a problem which should be addressed and this further shows the need for policy suggestions which could counter the problem in context. However, the policy proposal herein is quite stringent and would actually interfere with the normal school schedule. As such, the policies proposed require a scheduled trial to determine to what extent they are applicable.

Incentive structures of major players: post-policy change

The post-policy change incentives outlined are factual. Essentially, the students and instructors would want to behave differently from the policies proposed herein are implemented. The inclination in behavior as depicted in this incentive structure are accurate.

Expected outcome of policy implementation

The implementation of these policies requires a pioneering plan just to ascertain the reception of the same among students and instructors. Additionally, the predicted outcomes of the policy are desired but it will depend on the reception of the policies. It should be noted however that change is a difficult phenomenon and the expected outcomes might take time to be realized.

Proposed measures of policy effect

The effects after implementing the proposed policies will surely be realized and the measures such as GPA, time to degree completion and student retention are the best for this case because they basically determine the final student gains. Evaluation of proposed works well for instructors, unlike students.
