Team System Design Group Project Instructions

Summer 2020 Overview

The purpose of this group project is for your team to put everything that we have learned thus far into

designing a secure database system. Your group will create a large-scale grading system for a college or

university from scratch.

Setup

Each group should have at least three students. We may have to adjust the group size if as student

dropped the course.

Activity

1. For this project, your team is in charge of designing and planning the development of a

secure system for storing student’s records at a college or university of about 15,000

students. Think of this as a real-world implementation project. If you have questions

about the expected functionality of the system, please ask the professor. Some basic

requirements for the system are listed below:

A. Instructors should be able to view the grades of the students.

B. School admins should be able to view the grades of any student and up-date

grades with an Approved Grade Change Form.

C. Students may view only their grades.

D. The system should be web-based.

E. The system should account for user management.

F. Student’s grades should be emailed and/or physically mail after the course (

you may include other options).

Tasks

G. Use the template located on the course website (required).

H. Your group will not be able to include and test all functionality in the system.

The professor is aware of this; therefore, the professor expects for your group

to add these features to your wish-list or as recommendations for future

enhancements. Think of recommendations on how your group can improve

the basic requirements of this system. Your group should have at least four

recommendations. Remember, this is a graduate-level project. Professional

and reasonable recommendations are expected. Do no provide

recommendations that are not reasonable or will not enhance the system.

Your group will lose points.
