Summary of book #2
Josely Pena
Not all Black Girsl Know How to Eat
Book club summary #2
Using the questions provided as a guide, we discussed the psychology of the book. This includes the mental state of the author, the different characterisations, and the consequence of the influences that lead them to their decision making by using the access we have through the book. We were able to discuss the reasoning of the author’s actions and the way in which she comprehends situations. With this, we drew direct quotations from the book for accurate source of referencing and deeply picked apart the unconscious influence of her subconscious. We discussed the nature of her disorder and dysfunction. This trailed further into how it affects her daily life and the way in which it influences her emotional state. Her eating disorder is becoming beyond control which we were able to relate into how the book thusly in turn blows as far out of control as the book. Finally, we spoke about the external repercussion of her actions towards the people that surrounded her and how it affected them respectively.
Compliments to the group would be the mannerism in which we were able to conduct the book club meeting. We were able to build on each other’s ideas such as each person giving different perspectives of the same scene. This was able to emphasises the depth of the characters in the book but also providing a broaden idea of the meaning of the book. The beauty of the book was shown in the way each of us perceived it, expanding and developing our research and analytical skills. This enabled me to override the perception of a fictional character but that of a real human which is significant as it appeals to the complex emotions and conscious thoughts that we as people are able to develop and inhibit. The group was able to shine light on the significance of each word and the meaning each line can bring in order to allude to the bigger picture, that falls in the line of themes, symbols, motives and flaws.
