Using your notes from Reading class, do the following:

1. Summarize: IN YOUR OWN WORDS, write a short summary of one of the articles you have read in reading class. The summary should not be more than one or two paragraphs.

2. Respond: What is your instinctive reaction to this article? It is convincing? Unconvincing? Why? Without being comprehensive, write a one paragraph distillation of your gut reaction to the ideas put forth, providing support as needed.

Criteria

· Type the assignment

· Give a header at the beginning with your name, class name, homework assignment title and due date

· Use Reported Speech Verbs

· Include at least two examples of relative clauses – either restrictive or non-restrictive

· Include at least two examples of Compound-Complex sentences

· Give credit to the author at the beginning of the summary and at appropriate points throughout the summary.

· Include the most important ideas of the article, while also excluding details and information that are less important for general comprehension of the author’s points.

· Use a parenthetical in-text citation * at the beginning of the article, after your initial author attribution. You don’t need to provide any other in-text citation throughout the summary, as I understand that all the information will come from this article only. The only exception to this is if your author cites other authors; in that case, you should use an appropriate in-text citation to indicate a secondary source .*

· Include an APA style reference * at the end of the article. For the purposes of this homework assignment the reference does not have to be on its own page, save paper and just include it at the bottom of your summary.

*(see http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ for information on APA style)
