Overview of the role of the nurse manager

Nursing managers play a crucial role in the management of the facility and ensuring the smooth running of the operations. They must, at all times, be proficient in various responsibilities to make them able and capable of creating a healthy workplace and stronger relationships with the staff and workers available. They must be highly trained and well advanced in terms of experience ranging from 3- 5 years, and they must be registered in the role of supervision of other nurses in a nursing unit. Nursing managers have a role to play in financial management and budgeting. This role calls for a need to be knowledgeable in financial matters hence a need to have skills in business management and economics (Lowe, Plummer, & Boyd, 2016). Nursing managers must also be able to perform a role in which he or she will make staff scheduling meant for continuous care. Good nurse managers must ensure that the patients and the staffs in the departments usually get the needed assistance at all times. To clearly understand their roles, there was an interview conducted.

The findings managed to ascertain that they are tasked and are involved in the budgeting and budget overviewing process. As per the results, it is true to conclude that budgeting is a complicated process since many issues are considered. The most significant factor that influences budgeting is the availability of resources, which in most cases is scarce and calls for priorities first to be dealt with (Lowe, Plummer, & Boyd, 2016). It is vital to first understand what budget is and what the account entails. "a process for converting an operational plan into financial terms and outlining resources needed to achieve objectives; a managerial tool is driven by strategy, goals, and dreams. "The budgeting is always dependent on the projected expenditure estimated on an annual basis, then subdivided into a monthly basis. There is a rolling forecast budget that is usually used in operations. A yearly account is generally subdivided into months, and then the allocation is set aside based on the need per department and the processes. Some of the cost is usually budgeted by nursing managers includes the salaries, costs of operation and, cost of labor, noon labor expenses, and finally, the suppliers. There is the inclusion of nonproductive time in budgeting. This is the number of hours a person works on when not providing direct care to patients .at times. Time is spent o meetings, vacation, and education.

A manager is also tasked with being in charge of the daily staff schedule. It is vital that a healthcare setting must be well equipped with adequate nurses to avoid and experience a possible burn out among nurses. There must also be a low staff turnover, a tole of the nursing managers. It helps reduce the time and resources used in the recruitments of new staffs .it is also vital to note that there is another cost meet when new employees are recruited, and it is mean for staff orientation (&NA, 2018). They also have a role in ensuring a low census, which saves on the cost. On a low census day, it is wise to send nurses home, but in most cases, the manager will try to avoid such action by assigning them other duties hence preventing them from leaving when they don’t want to leave.

The nurse manager is also involved in the Budget, patient outcome, and staffing. Budget and budgeting play a crucial role in patient satisfaction, outcome, and outcomes. Having many nurses on the ground allows patients to be regularly checked and will prevent what is known as a safety concern. Lack of enough nurses or inadequate staffing is likely to cause medical errors, and the patients can get debilitated (&NA, 2018). This can ]n be an extra cost to the hospital since it may lead to an increase in liabilities. Inadequate nurses can make the time spend between a nurse and the patient shorten hence affecting the final patient outcomes. On a shorthanded day, there is an increased chance that there can be errors and other damages, and what might be happening to patients may not be realized. At the time, a patient s may be given medication when it is too late. Staff nursing is known to be working 24 hours of data and can be responsible for various medical errors. Budgeting by nurse managers has a role to play in staffing, equipping, and paying the nurses; hence tends to impact positively or negatively on the patient’s outcome. Staffing is a tole that is captured by budgeting hence making it automatically being involved in the patient’s satisfaction. Patients safety is the most vital and always comes at the top .this is a fact despite the institution wanting to stay within the budget, and there can be suffering in the patient's outcomes.

Perceptions related to impact on health policy on decision.

Policy implication are also a result of budgeting. There can be fewer nursing staff personnel if the institution has a low budget that might be inadequate. Lack of patient care means there are poor outcomes, poor or low patients satisfaction is also experienced; hence the institution may end up losing money (Lindsey, 2018). As per the articles, the CMMS or the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services cannot adequately reimburse healthcare facilities that score low in the Hospital Consumer Assessments of the Healthcare Providers and Systems popularly known as (HCAHPS) it is possible that this factor can easily make the healthcare or the hospital lose a lot of money .lost money directly translates to low staffing and a cut in staff budget. Low staff, a cut budget can technically mean that there is low client or patient satisfaction due to a bigger nurse to patients ratio. The low staff number and low budget also translate to mediocre services. The nurse manager must conduct a thorough check and adjustments in the nursing policies every half a year. This allows reviewing and coming up with an effective positive change that may affect the budget (Lindsey, 2018). A budget committee must be put in place to control the budgeting and look at the available policies in detail. It is also the role of the nursing manager to endure that there is adherence to the HIPAA requirement and the rules and regulations advocated by the federal state government and state government. The financing decision and budgeting must also capture the roles and rules and must be authorized by the finance and the management committee for credibility and accountability.

In conclusion, it is true to say that a nursing manager plays a vital role in the management, and the work is always hectic and stressful. He is supposed to be knowledgeable in finance management and management. Budgeting calls for a lot of consideration to many factors before being implemented. As nurse manager also is responsible for ensuring that the nurse and the patients get the best assistance they required. They are involved in the role of staffing, and they must at all times avoid incidences of understaffing to prevent burnout among nurses.
