The article “Want to Have an Effective Protest? Disrupt, Expert Says” is written by Dan Sicorsky and heavily relies on the contribution of Douglas McAdam, a recognized political researcher and a professor in Stanford. According to this expert, the most effective tactics of the political protest are the ones that disrupt the established routines of targeted individuals or institutions. I agree with the author in his points that the protesting nowadays is not effective as much as it was the past years and old protesting ways is not effective and conceder routines.
The author starts by introducing the biography of Mr. McAdam thus showing that he is involved with protest practices on the personal as well as on the academic level. Having participated in the anti-Vietnam war demonstrations, McAdam later examined techniques that would help protesters to get what they want and would employ by other groups of protesters in different historical periods both past and present. The general conclusion McAdam arrived at is that successful protests manage to break the established course which is giving the protesters new ideas.
McAdam believe that protesting nowadays is not as effective as it was in the past few years. I agree with McAdam on his view that protesting nowadays is not effective because nowadays the governments are using a way that could stop protesting without losing money or something valuable that could affect the government. Nowadays, the governments are giving all the effort to protect the money and people’s rights by having a good police system. Although I agree with McAdam that protesting nowadays is not effective anymore, I agree with him that the ways in protesting in not effective anymore.
Moreover, McAdam stated that the ways in protesting nowadays are not useful anymore. I agree with McAdams that one of the reasons these ways are becoming ineffective is because many of these tactics which was destructive the past years is considered boring and routines. I think one of the ways is that people could use the internet to create websites where people could come to gather and discuss these issues without endangering themselves.
In conclusion, the article talks about the politics of protests. The author succeeded to support his idea with examples and reasons that nonviolence camping protest have a bigger chance to peace. I also think the author stated some good Ideas that I personally agree with ideas like how protesting is ineffective nowadays.
