Research
Summary:
This should be approximately 2-4 pages in length and should consist of an introduction section, an experimental section, and a conclusion.
In the introduction you should be clear to detail 1) the problem your group chose to investigate and why such an investigation needs to be performed and 2) your clear and specific hypothesis.
The experimental section should include ALL of the details that went into the design of your experiment, from data collection to data analysis.
The conclusion should consist of a short restatement of the introduction and perhaps a discussion of some sources of error or bias in your experiment and how, if possible, they might be addressed.
Your final formal report should be typewritten, double-spaced, of reasonable font size, free of grammar and spelling mistakes, well organized, and well written. This submission will be due on, Monday, March 30th and worth 50 points (of the 150 points possible for this project).
Some Tips: Think of your paper as a proposal to the head of a wealthy grant agency (me) that is either going to fund your research or not based on the proposal you provide. Thus, you need to convince me that 1) this work needs to be done and 2) your proposed method of doing it will work. You may need to do some outside research into your topic, specifically with respect to what your write in the introduction and conclusion as you try to convince me that your project is important to society at large. Papers will be graded on their clarity and completeness, with special attention being paid to the discussion of the proposed experimental design and analysis of data.
