Family Opportunities and Life Planning for LGBT People

The term LGBT deems as a group of people that is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. In recent years, people tried to let them be equal to the heteronormative people somehow. However, LGBT people in most areas are still treated unfairly rather than normal people due to different worldviews. Therefore, this essay will unfold the different perspectives such as family opportunities and life planning in order to judge the LGBT people in the root of aforementioned phenomenon in recent years’ real-world context.

Most same-sex couples are concerned about their future life planning. To be more specific, annuity problems especially for the same-sex couples are popular puzzles many countries for a long time. Eldercare systems hold that the young family members for shouldering responsibility for older ones for whom childless or aging couples can be shared their concerns (Span, 2010). In my points of view, LGBT people always alienate their family due to the different worldviews so that they cannot depend on the relatives for assistance. Living is another phenomenon that the same-sex couples would not be welcoming if they get the chance to get into the community because places sponsored by the church offered the value of straight folks and not open for same-sex couples (Span, 2010), and the situation is that most of the same-sex couples hide their sexual orientation when they get enrolled in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

In fact, not only the same-sex couples, but also many LGBT individuals do not disclose their identity for fear of being estranged from their family members (Orel and Coon, 2016). With the development of society, U.S. Supreme Court made the same-sex marriages legalization (Orel and Coon, 2016). A new and exact definition for the same-sex couples is necessary in order to normalize them that LGBT communities are redefining family (Orel and Coon, 2016), and the long-term relationships for same-sex partners are more visible (Orel and Coon, 2016), which means they do not need to hide their identity from the law angle as a result. However, the case is defining LGBT families is hard because of the gender, which means they are not the regular families, not all the same-sex couples can adopt a child or more. So that the definition of “families of choice” has been created by aiming for the LGBT older adults who came out to family members (Orel and Coon, 2016). It is mainly described kin networking that LGBT individuals developed out of necessity when they were estranged from their family members if their families did not provide the needed support (Orel and Coon, 2016).

In a nutshell, there are still have a lot of work need to do as time goes by for the LGBT people in order to realize the real equality from all angles, also the questions can be addressed what are the reasons that lead more and more LGBT people to appear in recent years.
