| 3/18/2018 22:30:26 | South Platte River | South Platte River near the intersection of E 64th Ave and York St in Denver. | 7.8 | 150 | 15 | 0 | 1.5 | 180 | The water was green and murky with what looked like algae, but you could see the bottom. There were a few ducks/geese upstream. There was a river turtle in the water where I used the test strip. Fisherman have been seen at this location in the past. The vegetation near the banks was dead due to the season. The river in this area flowed between a coal plant, a water treatment facility, and a heavily-trafficked side road. The area smelled of rotting plant matter (like a typical river). |
| 3/18/2018 22:32:31 | South Platte River | South Platte River near the north wastewater outflow pipes of the Robert W. Hite wastewater treatment facility in Denver. | 7.8 | 300 | 20 | 1 | 2 | 120 | Water from the wastewater treatment facility emptied into the river here. The water had a thick layer of white/yellow foam on the surface. There was a slight chemical smell, like detergent. There was a lot of trash in the water near the bank. No animals appeared to be in the water in this area. There were some green plants on the opposite bank. |
| 3/18/2018 22:35:44 | Sand Creek | Sand Creek about 50 feet upstream from where it enters the South Platte River outside the Robert W. Hite wastewater treatment facility in Denver (Google maps 39.810040, -104.949991). | 8.4 | 300 | 10 | 0 | 4 | 180 | The water here flowed between the water treatment facility and I-270. There was a green layer of scum on the water where it didn’t flow as fast. Some ducks were nearby. No plants or trees grew on the banks except a few grasses. An old tire was on the bottom of the stream. Lots of trash was on the banks. About a dozen or so homeless people were living in tents a few hundred meters downstream. The whole area smelled of car exhaust. |
| 3/18/2018 22:37:57 | Standley Lake | Standley Lake on the north shore near the fishing docks, boat loading/unloading area, and campgrounds (Google maps 39.875445, -105.120862). | 6.8 | 75 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 40 | The water was very clear out to about 20 ft or so when it dropped out of sight. No trash was seen on the bank. The banks were lined with gravel and rocks but there were numerous trees and plants about 5 feet from the bank. The whole area smelled fresh and clean. |

While chlorine did show up within the river, it was small enough to indicate minimal to no contamination from industry or inappropriate waste management
Water was quite hard, thus has increased amounts of calcium carbonates, possibly explaining people's avoidance of touching river and fewer aquatic animals within water, vegetation around river.
The alkalinity in the water is at a less than ideal range, instead more of a moderate ppm, quite lower than the recommended 120-180, possibly suggesting minimal industrial pollutants and such
pH is fairly neutral, with likely hints of urine and saliva (likely from passers by and nearby homeless population), yet water should theoretically help make organisms thrive.
Nitrite being less than 1 is an alright water & likely healthier (not caner causing), but it's enough that one should still take caution, and this also means the water likely has lower decomposition of organic matter or excess discharge form waste facilities.
Even though many of the test interpretations should relative success and not much wrong with the South Platte river, such a high nitrate means water is contaminated and detrimental to health, likely negatively impacting the water system and aquatic life in river. May be caused by septic tanks, solid or hazardous waste from landfill leakages.

| 4/7/2018 22:03:14 | Cherry Creek | Cherry Creek just past Highway 86 and Castlewood Canyon Rd -- Franktown | 7.2 | 112.5 | 2.5 | 0 | 0 | 45 | Since chlorine technically scored a 0 (out of only the 2 tests ran), it means it's likely safe and there's likely minimal to no contamination from industry or inappropriate waste management in the water. Though I do feel it important to note it wouldn't be surprising if a small amount of chlorine was found, even still it likely wouldn't change the results, but instead prove theres more likely minimal contamination, versus no contamination. Also Cherry Creek had the lowest/safest chlorine levels than any of the other water sources tested.
Another surprising note is that the highest pH out of all 4 water sources I tested was Cherry Creek (which runs through rural/agricultural land), however it's not saying much because it's still considered neutral at 7.2, but on the higher end of neutral (meaning the fact it runs through rural land likely doesn't impact it's pH all that much), this also means there's likely a lot of thriving conditions and thus more freshwater organisms in Cherry Creek (explaining some fishing) and why one can see small aquatic life in parts of the water. |

| 4/7/2018 22:16:03 | Bear Creek | Bear Creek between Highway 8, Bear Creek ave, and Canyon St -- Morrison | 6.8 | 75 | 0 | 0 | 0.25 | 40 | Chlorine showed up as a 0 with the first test strip and a 0.5 with the second test strip, averaging 0.25, which is perfectly between safe levels and dangerous levels. More research is likely needed to be done to determine if the river more often has 0 ppm (safe levels) or 0.5 ppm (dangerous levels). For now the data does support that there may be minimal contamination from industry or inappropriate waste management. But if it's found that the chlorine levels are more often and likely around 0.5 ppm, one could then assume and state that the water source isn't as safe as it could be and there's definite pollution, likely killing off a fair portion of biological organisms in or that use the water source.
Found that Bear Creek has the softest ppm (75) on the hardness scale compared to the other sources which were hard or in-between hard and soft (leaning more toward hard). Since this creek is used as the primary source of water for the town of Morrison, it would be interesting to see if the people in Morrison have more or less kidney stones (or more of an increased or decreased chance of getting kidney stones) compared to those who live in towns that get their water supply from waters with a higher and thus harder ppm. Once could assume that people in Morrison are less likely than those in Franktown, Denver, and Golden if those towns use Clear Creek, Cherry Creek, or South Platte as a primary water source for their populations. |

However, people are still likely okay to interact in and around the water even though it's more dangerous because it's likely not cancer causing/overall dangerous to human health in small doses, and the fact that it's so close to 0.5 ppm and not the highest, which is 6.0. This could also means there's possible contaminants from industry or inappropriate waste management.
Interestingly the alkalinity for Clear Creek was the lowest (20 ppm) than any other water source that was tested. I did have 1 test strip which stated alkalinity was at 0 ppm and the 2nd test strip which stated alkalinity was 40 ppm). Even though the second strip showed a minor jump in alkalinity, such levels are still very low from the normally ideal numbers of 120-180 ppm. This could mean Clear Creek flows through areas rich in granite and sandstone, etc... since those sort of bedrock have a poor buffering capacity (which lowers alkalinity and effect pH), more research on pH effect and surrounding bedrock is likely needed for further hypothesis', conclusions, etc...
