MGT/418 - EVALUATING NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

Participation Grading

Participation Response

All responses will count towards the class participation requirement. Initial responses should be at least 250 words, this word count does not include your signature or any quotes, references, citations and such . I do require that your discussion question responses adhere to APA formatting requirements. Please make sure to proofread carefully. Grammar and spelling errors may impact the grading. I expect your responses to reflect critical thought. Whenever possible, please try to relate the course content to real-world applications from your work experience. I want to encourage you to use appropriate course vocabulary and citations to the text and readings to support your conclusions. Responses also may be covered by the late policy. They will not be accepted if posted in the following week. They may still count towards your participation grade.

Remember that all types of participation should be substantive, offering more than statements such as “I agree,” or “Good point.”  To elaborate, substantive participation should:

· Add value to the discussion and avoid simply repeating, agreeing with, or answering yes or no to peers’ comments

· Challenge comments in class, including those of the facilitator

· Ask insightful questions

· Answer other people’s questions

· Exemplify the point with real-life events, when possible, making sure not to go beyond the boundaries of confidentiality

· Make comments that are relevant to the course content and objectives

· Use our new Critical Thinking vocabulary

· Use the readings as references to support your conclusions

· Use references and citations to support your thoughts and conclusions
