I feel that the three most important would be authority, accuracy and coverage. The are the top three for me because I feel that the text or website should be up to date to make sure we get the most accurate of information and the authority is important because we want to know that who ever wrote on this topic is known by others and has good standing. I feel that when we look at all five then they are in fact enough to evaluate a website. To me authority means the author is well versed on the topic and this is important because if they do not know information on the topic they may just be biased and giving opinions.

Accuracy means that the information provided is valid and trustworthy, this is important because we want to be able to trust the website, we are getting information from. Objectivity to me means that the website has a reason for being a website and it is fact based and not opinions, this is important because if it is based on facts then we know that the theory has been tested and proven. Currency means that the page should be up to date on current events and is not outdated and this is important because if a webpage is outdated then some or all the information could be incorrect and could have changed drastically. To me coverage means that everything on the topic is covered and if they have any research that it is included in the website this is important because in order to get information from a source you want that source to have all the answers in one place rather than having to search that one topic over and over in order to answer all the questions that you may have.

There is a total of five criteria to search a website and they are accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage. All five of these criteria seem to be needed in order to effectively gauge a website. The most important three would be authority, accuracy, and coverage. With these three you could judge a website. Authority is who published the document and you should be able to see highlighted words about the author giving some background details about the writer showing why he or she is a source to be trusted. Accuracy is who wrote the document and is providing a way of getting in contact with the author and not the web admin. Coverage is the ability to view the information provided without being charged money or being asked to download some applications in order to browse the site. My top three would be currency, coverage, and objectivity.

The three most important criteria’s I look for when researching on a website are accuracy, objectivity, and currency. These three are important in their own ways and make the difference between retaining great information for your paper and having false and outdated information. These three criteria’s go hand in hand and in my opinion, are enough to evaluate a website. You want a website to be accurate to avoid using false information and what I look for is information that is based on facts. Pages such as Wikipedia are not credible pages because the information there is not reviewed and can therefore be biased or false. Currency is important because you want to make sure that the information you are using is current and not outdated. Having outdated information can affect your paper because you want your key points of your essay to be backed up by information that was recently proven to be true to give your essay credibility.
