Integrated care for frail elderly compared to usual care: a study protocol of a quasi-experiment on the effects on the frail elderly, their caregivers, health professionals and health care costs. BMC Geriatrics, 13http://dx.doi.org.su.idm.oclc.org/10.1186/1471-2318-13-31

Health providers assist with providing and obtaining caregivers (when needed) and additional health care coverage if applicable. All these aspects must be considered when seeking care, caring for, or living independently as an elderly person that may be considered frail. These are logical aspects that must be considered in daily routines and essentials for living.

Stone, R., & Harahan, M. F. (2010). Improving the Long-Term Care Workforce Serving Older Adults. Health Affairs, 29(1), 109-15. http://dx.doi.org.su.idm.oclc.org/10.1377/hlthaff.2009.0554

The article focuses on the shortage of long-term care workers to meet the needs of our elderly. Research and efforts to address the issue are composed of the unique circumstances affecting these workers. Such as low compensation, limited career advancement, training, and businesses focusing on long-term care versus a short-term aspect. Workers are more attracted to acute and primary care settings for a long-term care or treating options. The shortage of competent and available long-term workers that are well paid until recently suggestions of future workforce planning and improvement initiatives have been revisited.

There are four principles which include conventional rules of supply and demand, compete, and properly develop workers for long-term care, workforce roles and responsibilities, and provide the competencies needed to work in the long-term care field. These changes would involve direct care workers, registered nurses, license practical/vocational nurses, physical therapist, administrators, and a host of others that have direct involvement.

These are valid aspects of ensuring individuals of the elderly community are not overlooked. There are several different changes an elderly person may endure and unable to address due to these types of factors. Considerations for extensions and provisions should be made enabling elderly individuals to obtain the proper assistance needed to lead a good quality of life.
