Pocahontas
Pocahontas was the daughter of the Algonquin chief, Powhatan. She assisted Jamestown, VA, settlers in the early 1600s. She was a friend of John Smith. Pocahontas married an Englishman and moved to Britain. She is a significant historical figure because she assisted the first permanent New World settlement and symbolized the blending of Native American and British cultures.
