What is the value of studying the humanities in a business or technical curriculum?

The value of studying humanities is to understand all cultures and types of individuals. With working in the health care field, I encounter may different types of people with different beliefs and cultures and it if very important to understand them. This is true in any field or curriculum that one must understand the beliefs and cultures they serve. This will help benefit the people being served and help develop the best way of communication. We look at our ancestors for guidance and learn from their mistakes and triumphs. Humanities helps us to look deeper into those. As stated in our reading, “a culture encompasses the values and behaviors shared by a group of people, developed over time, and passed down from one generation to the next” (Sayre, 2013, p.2).

How might a topic such as ancient art enhance contemporary life?

When we look at our ancestors and culture, we look at some of their accomplishments and hardships. With looking at their accomplishments we may look at ancient art. This can enhance the way we look at things now a days and bring back ways of doing things. As mention on US History, “Ancient Greek art emphasized the importance and accomplishments of human beings.” This showed and empowered people on what could all be accomplished by one individual. We look at the work done and exam on how it was accomplished and what may have been done right and ways it could have been improved. That is why looking back at what was done in the past can help foster new beginnings. Looking at the health care field and evidence-based practice, it is looked at to be the best practice over time as evident by the outcomes of the patients.
