US Health care systems

Yes, I do agree with the statement. The health care system in the United States (US) is broken, however; with the effort and commitment of all the stakeholders, it can become better.  From the insurance companies to the health care providers, the pharmaceutical companies and everyone that is involved in the delivery of healthcare to consumers are responsible for the fragmentation and the disintegration in the American health care delivery system. Instead of coordinating as a healthcare team, each stakeholder takes care of the piece of the puzzle they have to play in the delivery of the healthcare system.

There is no coordination in providing proficient and cost affordable care to every American. America is one of the richest countries in the world, yet it is unable to provide basic health and medical care to its citizens. People are denied basic access to care until their illness becomes emergent that requires an ambulance ride to an emergency room. Universal healthcare is the solution for America’s broken health care system. It is working in other countries like Canada, the United Kingdom. It is quite certain this great nation, which is the greatest country on earth is capable of producing a system that would deliver safe and trusted care to the American people. However, there are too many interest groups that have the power to lure our lawmakers in Congress to seek personal interests instead of solely considering the interest of the American people. Lobbyist groups are the driving forces for every law that is put into law or that is turned down because it will be a hindrance to some interest groups. Politics and policies play a major role in the delivery of the US health care delivery system where for an example, for years the Republicans have fought to cut Medicaid expenditures whereas the Democrats, on the contrary, have battled to continue funding the program because it primarily provides health care to those under the poverty line (Coronado, 2014).

The lack of communication and proper handoff using the situation, background, assessment, recommendation and questions (SBARQ) creates more profound problems in the health care delivery system. In 2009, the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA) or commonly known as the Obamacare was enacted to save the US delivery system, but it fell short of providing health care to all Americans. Though some states opted into the Obamacare program, other states refused to participate in the program based on party lines and a whole slew of reasons. According to drsforamerica.org, Obamacare was passed to provide “opportunity for delivery system reform to ensure that patients are getting the right care at the right time in a coordinated, collaborative and efficient manner.”

Stange (2009), stated that “fragmentation is at the heart of the ineffectiveness of our increasingly frantic efforts to nurture improvement.”  Stange (2009) went on to say that the imbalance and the broken health delivery system has been the genesis of the healthcare crisis in delivering costly, unequal and poor quality care.  If the stakeholders would focus on providing safe and affordable care to consumers and have less target on the profit and benefits they obtain from health care, the system will gradually combine it broken pieces into a whole piece.  There are several moving parts that have broken away from the whole health care system, so until we can gather the pieces and remold them together with providing universal health, the system will continue to be broken. Makary (2015), wrote;  “health care harm is common, real and costly.” If the broken pieces of the health care system can be stitched together to be made whole, America will gradually move toward providing its people with safe, effective and affordable care.

· Discussion Question: Write Your Opinion About If American Health

System is Broken? Yes or No: Support Your Opinion - Why?

First and foremost; Yes, I agree about our American Healthcare System being broken. In essence,

in answering the question about if American healthcare is broken or not then we firstly need to

take into account about what New York Post indicated. For instance; we can consider our today's

American healthcare system a bit dysfunctional (New York Post, 2017). This is due to the fact that

most consuming public are indeed receiving the health care from the government and as we know

something that is provided by the government and to lots of people then may not be in a very good

quality, to say the least. Holistically, let us take a look on what most researchers are saying about

this interesting topic and since the United States Health care system appear to rank very highly

among the developed countries such as Japan, China, England, France, Germany, Canada and etc.

Conceptually, the American health system has the biggest infant death rate in comparison to other

developed countries and this such question then remains to be answered as far as the reasons why?

Nonetheless, life expectancy in the American health system appear to be quite average in

comparison to Brazil and thus some of those deaths could be preventable if further precautions are

taken as far as careful consideration about proper care, unnecessary deaths, medical mistakes by

our doctors appear to be one of the highest.

In retrospect, another aspect is for example leaving surgical tools inside patients’ bodies

inadvertently appear to be one of the areas that should be taken into account. This is as far as not

to repeat similar mistakes and so forth. According to the current statistics we have over quarter a

million annual numbers of physicians (New York Post, 2017) who do not interact as anticipated

as their co-workers and other medical providers such as physicians’ assistants, nurses and also

over hundred thousand patients dyeing every year due to medical mistakes and so forth. Heart

· attack is also showing to be very high in the American health care system and some of those deaths

could potentially be prevented if people follow proper eating habits and also eating proper food

stuff such as fruits and vegetables instead of fast food, junk food and too much sugary drinks such

as sodas, coca cola, Pepsi cola and other sugary drinks, if you will. People should be drinking more

water, follow proper procedures of exercising on a daily basis and eating less processed food stuff,

as a whole, respectively.
