Learning about Criminal Law through this course has definitely affirmed my goal in pursuing a role in the criminal justice system by allowing me the room to grow in understanding through functional learning. I am excited to use the knowledge and experience from this degree field and from my over 13 years of a professional career. I am looking forward to learning more about how the criminal justice system can help and about the reform needed to influence change.

I really feel that change takes time. There are many agencies that are taking steps to bring about positive social change in the communities they serve. I do feel that there is an extensive push towards positive social change within several police agencies here in Arizona. I do feel the more, out in the community, our law enforcement agencies are, the better. Building community spirit and providing education in de-escalation. Tucson, AZ and Pima County are doing a fantastic job at meeting and exceeding the social change expectation, every day. Through many avenues including Crisis Intervention Training. Such a huge resource!

So, throughout this class we have discussed the many aspects of crime and how to distinguish between types of crime and the elements of crime. I originally was thinking of going into Tax Law because I have ten years’ experience in the IRS but now, I feel fighting the good fight may be in becoming a defense lawyer for criminal law. You hear all the time that you have to represent bad people, but the truth is you have to make sure the state does its due diligence in its prosecution of cases and you are the checks and balance for this. I was excited at some of the case studies and liked looking up laws for which charges needed to be filed and what laws can be used as a defense strategy. I have to say for me this class was great I learned a lot and loved working within this subject.
