Hello Professor and classmates,
What is the value of studying the humanities in a business or technical curriculum? How might a topic such as ancient art enhance contemporary life?
This is such a classic question which will generate such a great deal of thoughts and ideas. Across studying the humanities as part of the BSN curriculum, I’ll be able to think more critically and creatively. I’ll definitely be more able to understand how cultures play a huge influence amongst each other. The humanities put you in contact with the past.
By studying the past, we’re able to understand today’s world while predicting the future. The humanities also help us understand others better by ways of their histories, cultures and their languages. It is known also that humanities also teaches empathy which is such a critical aspect of being a compassionate nurse. It is essential for a nurse to get some knowledge about humans.
Without the humanities there will be no democracy. It allows a venue to appreciate others point of view and other’s culture. Also it is known that studying the humanities will make students better writers and communicators. Nursing students will definitely apply what they’ve learn while caring for a particular group of people base on their cultures and beliefs.
We live in a world were almost everything becomes quantifiable. It’s worth mentioning that we need to realize that not everything can be reduce to a data point. This leads us to a famous quote from Albert Einstein, “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.”
