NEED DISCUSSION IN 8 HOURS or LESS
INITIAL DISCUSSION Answer the following questions, you may complete additional research as needed:
1) In your opinion what is the purpose of stretching muscles? 2) What is the difference between static and dynamic stretching? 3) Is stretching the same as a warm-up or a cool-down? Why or why not? 4) Do you perform stretching exercises? If you do, do you prefer to stretch before
exercise, after exercise, or independent of exercising? Why or why not?
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.
Peer Response Read the initial posts made by classmates (BELOW). Respond with the following:
1) Add to your peer’s post by discussing the following ideas: a) Do you agree or disagree with their stretching methods? Why or why not? b) If you disagree with your peer's response try and convince your peer that
your method is more efficient. Explain why you think it is more efficient. c) In your opinion does stretching increase or decrease injury to the muscle?
Explain your thoughts. d) Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and
references in APA format.
(Jeff Post) In my opinion, the purpose of stretching muscles is to improve range of motion and decrease injuries during exercising. Static stretching is measured by linear or angular measurements of limits of joints motions. In laymen's terms, static stretching means to hold a stretch for more than 10 seconds or more. While dynamic stretching is usually examined by biomechanical measures of muscle stiffness aka actively motions that gradually increase in range of motion and speed. Stretching can be performed during a warm-up or cool-down session but are not the same. A warm-up is meant to increase your heart rate, increase your blood supply and oxygen to the muscles. A cool-down, just as warming up, is meant to keep blood flowing continously throughout the body and preventing unpleasant side effects such as light headedness. I do not perform stretching exercises because I rarely work out. My only form of exercise is running around 12 hours a day at work or behind my kid & dog at home.
