Strategies for including academic activities and accomplishments into my professional development goals are to first achieve academic excellence and participate in academic activities. My professional goals are to be successful in this program and attain a career as a psychiatric and family nurse practitioner. According to Mohajer et al. (2023) developing a professional portfolio learning strategy has allowed nursing students to continue professional development and enhance nursing professionalism in professional clinical practice. One strategy would be to keep a current portfolio updated with essential information that would include a cover letter with a professional photo, resume, career goals, at least three professional recommendations, pertinent membership in various organizations, scholarship awards, and academic achievements. This layout would be a step-by-step display of the importance of my past and current professional development goals.

Healthcare professionals need to update their skills regularly and continuing education, or continued professional development enables the renewal and updating of skills in healthcare settings (Mlambo et al., 2021). Another strategy would be to attend yearly training such as the annual American Association of Nurse Practitioners conference or the APEA live review course. You can earn continuing education credit and expand your knowledge. This allows you to network with hundreds of people on similar career paths, which helps expand your network.

As a nurse practitioner, I plan to strive to make a positive impact on the nursing and medical communities by committing to lifelong learning and always doing what is best for each patient. According to Walden (2021), positive social change is defined as a deliberate process of creating and applying ideas, strategies, and actions to promote the worth, dignity, and development of individuals across their lifespan. These goals I have described align directly with Walden’s emphasis on social change because as a nurse practitioner, I plan to intentionally promote social change by giving back to the nursing community and leading by example. I will exemplify what it means to have integrity, values, and a work ethic. I plan to continue to always strive for excellence and achieve each goal that I set and to incorporate the knowledge, skills, and values instilled in me by my instructors, into my daily activities.
