Starting Off Right: Ethical Hiring Best Practices Yvette Harrison APU MGMT 314 June 23, 2019

Abstract

This paper is a two-fold documentation of the code of ethics/code of conduct and the best practices of ethical hiring. To begin, there will be a brief discussion of two very similar yet different documents that attempt to influence individual behavior in the workplace. The second part of the discussion will attempt to outline a guideline for “best practices” of ethical hiring by examining the reasons for having a set of “best practices” and then discussing what those “best practices might look like for a company or organization.

Human behavior is influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. While intrinsic factors are beyond the leader’s control, extrinsic factors can be somewhat be manipulated to manifest goals and a reputation with stakeholders through two basic documents. With the use of the code of ethics and the code of conduct companies and organizations can mold human behavior to benefit their best interests. In addition to these two documents, a set of hiring “best practices” can help to ensure that companies and organizations find an ethical fit that will help to grow a strong and productive business both in product and reputation.

Beginning with the code of ethics and the code of conduct. These two documents can sometimes be uses interchangeably, but that is a mistake. Both documents are used by larger companies or organizations to self-regulate behaviors of their employees that will ultimately either accomplish a set of goals or define a company’s reputation. The difference between these two documents needs to be discussed and examined in order to be understood.
