Career Connection: Values and Strategy Paper
This paper is going to explain the strategic management processes at Buffalo Wild Wings establishments. The mission of Buffalo Wild Wings states “We will WOW our guests every day by achieving the highest level of satisfaction with an extraordinary focus on friendly service, food, fun and value” (World Wide Wings, nd). By having a strategic management process in place, it allows for everyone to know what the mission of the company is going to be for the future.
Strategic Management Process
The strategic management process is the full set of commitments, decisions, and actions required for a firm to achieve strategic competitiveness and earn above-average returns (Hitt, Ireland, & Hoskisson, 2017). The whole idea of Buffalo Wild Wings all began back in 1982 in Columbus, Ohio where the founder’s primary objective was to be able to give patrons the opportunity to watch sporting events while they enjoyed a few beers and wings. Now, this was back when not everyone had cable, satellite, or internet to be able to see their favorite games being played whenever they wanted because they were not on local television. The strategic management process involves three different processes: analysis, strategy, and performance.
The initial assessment of the company wanted to be able to “WOW” their customers with the service that they would offer to them to ensure that they would keep on coming back. To make sure that they were able to get the customers to keep coming back they needed to see what other wing establishments such as the Wing Warehouse and Quaker Steak and Lube were conducting their business. The number one goal of Buffalo Wild Wings was to make sure that their guests were being taken care for. The company knows that customers are what bring in the revenue for the business and if they are not happy then they are just going to go to another establishment and tell others about their experience.
Implementing the strategy was critical to the success of the company because making sure that the customers were enjoying their experience were the key to making sure that they keep on coming back. For this to be possible, the company had to make sure that every person that they would bring in would have a focus on customer service first. With a position such as a bartender, waiter, or waitress how much you are going to take home at the end of the night is going to depend on how well you treated your customers when they come and visit the establishment. If the service is not any right or you were slow getting whatever it is that the client needs then they are not going to leave the person waiting on the table or bartender the amount of a tip that they were expecting.
Motivation Strategy
Buffalo Wild Wings lacks having a motivation strategy to its employees which can in return hurt the value of the business. Every company should have a motivation factor for its employees to do their jobs to the best of their ability. However, if there is no motivation for them to continue to perform their best their performance will slowly decline after a time. Motivation can end up hurting the business because it is not only going to affect one employee but can change an entire staff at an establishment. Motivation is always a key factor for employees to keep doing a good job in their profession, but if there is no reason to put in your best effort, then it can also make customers not want to come there due to bad service.
Ethics and Social Responsibility
The role that ethics and social responsibility plays in the restaurant business can be found in the company's Code of Ethics. These codes of ethics are important to the firm because it allows for members of the Buffalo Wild Wings organization to do business, but trust them that they are not going to do anything that will jeopardize the company. If a person that works for the company does anything that breaks any state or federal laws when it comes to the inside of the business can lead to severe consequences. Everyone in the organization is, to be honest about everything from financial information to the firm that is in the restaurants with customers.
My values and Vision
If I were the manager at a Buffalo Wild Wings location or Chief Executive Officer for the company my number one objective for the company would be to make sure that every customer in my establishment. When working in retail years ago all of the associates had to make sure that they were engaging with every customer that they passed by and made sure that the customers were able to find whatever product they may be looking for in the store. In any business no matter what industry it is in, it is important to make sure that the customer is always happy because if they are upset about their visit to the establishment they are going to tell their friends, family, and coworkers about the experience. The worst thing that a customer could do is either call corporate headquarters about their experience or put it out on the internet because that is negative publicity that they do not want to have.
Conclusion
Having an effective strategic management process is important for all businesses to succeed because it allows for all members of the company to know what direction the company is looking to go in. When a company has an effective plan for the vision of the company it allows for everyone to be able to help reach those goals with the individuals that have set those goals for the enterprise. If there is no vision for the company, then they are pretty much just trying to make money with no set goal in place. However, if your enterprise does not have any set goals to reach, then they are going to end up being passed up by other companies that are in the industry.
