High energy requirement in medical facilities is a key challenge. It is important for action to be taken to cut down on wastages and to deploy energy saving mechanisms.

Key ways of reducing wastages include; installing lighting systems that sense motion to automatically switch on to avoid fulltime lighting, using energy efficient bulbs and educating employees, patients and the community on the importance of conserving energy so that the culture is fully cultivated within members of the community.

Basic rules;

· Switch off lights if there is enough natural light

· Use an instant shower for as much time you would do if you were paying for the power bills.

· Swicth off devices and equipment like computers and television that when not in use.

· Always source for the most energy efficient equipment.
