Memorial Day—the unofficial start of summer. John and Linda had been anticipating the time off from work. John is a teacher and Linda is a bank teller. They live in Miami. They had made plans to visit Linda’s mom in Orlando and maybe go to Disney World or Universal Studios during the three-day weekend. On Thursday night, they had packed their bags for a three-day excursion, and as soon as they got off from work on Friday afternoon, they were on the road. It was a trip they had made many times before, but this time it would be different. Sawgrass fires forced I-95 and the Turnpike to shut down for long stretches. They had to get off the main highway and seek alternative routes. With heavier than usual traffic on a holiday weekend, what was normally a four-hour trip extended late into the night. Then the car’s left front tire blew out, and they had to pull over in an unfamiliar town. Both John and Linda’s cell phones were not working...
John and Linda are in utter shock that their tire just popped on the side of the road. John gets out to see the damage and is instantly annoyed while Linda is in the car in disbelief that this is happening to them. The raggedy road is completely empty so John starts to move around to see if he can get signal on his phone. He pops open the trunk to find out there’s no spare tire. Linda starts going off on him about how could he not have a spare tire and to think smarter. After a cooldown, they decide to walk to any place nearby, but they soon grew tired. Linda sits on the ground frustrated while John pokes out his thumb the good old fashion way to ask for a ride. Finally, a nice man in a pickup truck pulls up and offers them a ride to the nearest tire shop. The couple happily climbs in the back. They arrive at the tire shop and just when they are about to check out, John notices he doesn’t have cash and Linda notices she left her purse in their abandon car. John and Linda start arguing and placing blame. The nice man who gave them a ride, gives them the money to pay for the tire. The couple was overjoyed! After the victory dance, the nice man carries the tire to the back of his truck and head back their car. The nice man replaces the flat with the brand-new tire and Linda pays him back in cash for the tire. John and Linda get back in the car and give thanks and wave goodbye to the nice man. They get back on the road and finally arrive at Disney World.
