In the society we live in, most people will often judge others depending on the behaviors they possess. In most cases, they associate this behavior with a particular group of people. Interestingly, this idea of judging an individual tends to be wrong, so it is always good not to judge a book by its cover. I hope my story will give a clear picture of stereotyping.
When I joined high school some years ago, I was so excited because I knew I would get an opportunity to participate in my favorite sport, which is basketball. My passion about this game developed in me at a tender age of seven .My parents encouraged me to do more practice because they saw that I was so good at playing and this gave me more hopes of shinning in this game. The fact that I was a short person did not stop me from playing basketball, and I can say that this game is my life.
Being a short person, I played the shooting guard position due to the rules of the game. According to my friends in high school, a short person cannot play basketball because it is perceived to belong to tall individuals only. I remember my best friend laughing at me the first day I told her that my favorite game is basketball. She wondered how a short girl/boy like me could play this game. Even the school coach looked at me with a doubtful look, but deep inside I knew I was a good player.
The day was Friday when at last, we played our first game and everybody was amazed at how good I was. I could see the look in their eyes as they looked at me with disbelief. You see, nobody thought I could be that good in basketball, but I just smiled at them and left.
