Steeleframeshisargumentswithinthebroadersocio.docx

Steele frames his arguments within the broader socio-political history of the USA to better understand how Native Americans  have been strategically included -- and also excluded -- from USA consumerism

Ruffins frames her arguments using examples of racialized advertisements in US consumer/advertising.

Brezeale's article, "In Spite of Women:  Esquire and Creating the Male Consumer"  discusses the creation of a male consumer market, the devaluing of women to do so, and the resulting linkage between masculinity, social class, and consumption.

I'm wondering what you found new or interesting or challenging in these three (3) articles, so for this second thread, I'd like YOU to post an open-ended, text-based discussion question in bold about one of the articles.  (You're welcome to include commentary about where we might see evidence of these  articles today, but your initial questions should be based on the text.)

Example questions could include:

· Do you agree with __________'s argument about _________?

· ____________ provides a number of examples of ___________in their essay, ___________.   Did you find them convincing?  Why or why not?

· I don't understand (or am confused, or not sure how to relate to)   _______________ in __________'s essay.  Can anybody explain or walk me through it?

· __________argues/suggests __________________.  However, I don't know if this argument still applies today.  What do you think?  Do you have any counter examples of _______________?

· Any other text-specific questions  -- personal experiences provide useful counter or supporting examples, but please make sure you're engaging with the texts/concepts at length!

Please note that your original question will not count as one of your four posts, unless, of course, you choose to answer it at length.   You'll need to answer TWO (2) questions posted on the thread, in addition to posting your own.

Also, please make sure we discuss all three articles at length.  If you notice someone hasn't posted a question about one of the articles, please help us out and do so!

Remember, to highlight any key words in red!  All posts should engage significantly with the readings, key terms, and demonstrate evidence that you have read and thought about the material.
