THE STATUS OF BILLS IN CONGRESS

Go to: http://thomas.loc.gov/ and become familiar with the website’s structure and functions. Given what you have learned in today’s lecture and elsewhere on the workings of the U.S. Congress, search the site by “Committees” and “Members” for the current session of Congress (116th). Identify TWO (2) bills of interest to you that are currently under review in the Senate and/or House of Representatives. The bills do not have to be health-related. ONE of the two bills’ legislative history should contain a Committee Report. For each of the two bills you identify, do the following:

1. After reading the summary and full-text of the bill, describe what the measure proposes to accomplish;

2. Identify the Member sponsoring the bill, what committee(s) does he/she sit on, and what are his/her issue/subject interests;

3. After reading over the Committee’s report on the bill, determine and state the Committee’s favorability of the proposed legislation; and

4. Identify the status and latest action of the bill, and how long the measure has been introduced in

Congress (refer to the below example as a template to use).
