STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

During my past years, the ardour for understanding business concepts and ideas has been widely influenced by my educational background and professional experience. Business to me has always been about people and their needs; it is about innovating ideas and generating business opportunities by understanding the psychological aspect of the society.

I have always wanted to start my chain of hotels in the future, primarily due to the passion that I have in doing business, which has been enhanced by the studies that I undertook in humanities and entrepreneurship in high school. The study of history, psychology and entrepreneurship helped me understand how human psychological attributes and changing trends influence the corporate world, how businesses in the past were established and the way it shaped the lives of the people, further supplementing my knowledge of the corporate world.

Having been chosen as one of the core secretariat members of my school’s Model United Nations conference and several World Unity & Peace festivals, I am constantly involved in substantial amount of research in the fields of international market and sustainable development. One such example would be the viability of carbon credits and the system of cap and trade, such as the European Union Emission Trading Scheme was the first to introduce so, for eliminating greenhouse gas emissions for immediate as well as longer term benefits. It’d allow nations to ensure minimum pollution in their own respective countries as well as others in a cost- effective manner. MUN conferences have generated a keen in geopolitical developments within me. Further, organising such conferences have helped me develop my managerial skills, to run events for over 400 delegates.

By helping student incubate reading and writing habits as the Literary Club Prefect of my school, I conducted several instructional events to sharpen the communication and persuasive skills of the students, thereby building self-efficacy and organizing skills that are much needed in life. As a part of co-scholastic assessment under continuous and comprehensive scheme in my school’s fete (Celebrating Entrepreneurship), I was awarded ‘The Most Competitive Entrepreneur’ position, which promoted my leadership, soft skills and creativity. Furthermore, studying English as a foreign language on Oxford Summer Courses at the University of Oxford has enabled me to understand how to relate with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. It gave me a tremendous experience of working on assignments independently. In addition to practical skills such as public speaking and demonstration, I also began to understand how it is to work and study in a multinational environment through my time in on the course.

At a book fest in Mumbai, I was struck by Thomas L. Friedman’s bestseller “The World is Flat”. His sobering and frightening description of how businesses have changed in the 21st century, led me to think that in this technology and money fuelled global environment, the competition is always between you and your inventiveness. It widened my concept of innovation and reminded me to stay flexible for fast evolving world economic platform. I believe that upon completing the course, I will be better equipped with more knowledge as well as skills in doing entrepreneurial activities thus creating more job opportunities for the community. My objective after getting into the business course is to learn how to help others achieve maximum profits from their investments. Studying in the UK will ensure me an extra edge through the world class teaching faculty and would help me understand the market and enterprises on an International level.

During my undertaking of the course, I will frequently challenge myself to learn something new. Indeed, such objective can be achieved by interacting with other successful entrepreneurs. I have come to discover that business world has endless opportunities and I strongly wish to learn more of practical activities in the current business world.
