| Variable | Description |
| State | The name of the state |
| State Label | The postal code of the state (for shorter labeling on scatter plots, etc.) |
| Region | The region the state is located in, according to the U.S. Census. There are 4 regions: Midwest, Northeast, South, and West |
| Governor | The political party of the state's governor. There is no "governor" of DC, so I used the party of the Mayor |
| Population (millions) | The state's population (in millions of people) |
| Unemployment Rate | The unemployment rate in the state from the BLS as of December 2020 (most recent available). This is measured on a 0-100 scale (4.4 means 4.4% of labor force is unemployed) |
| % Vaccinated | The percentage of the state population that has received at least one round of the COVID-19 vaccine, as of February 4th, 2021. This information comes from the CDC. This is measured on a 0-100 scale (6.8 means 6.8% of the state population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine |
| % Infected | The cumulative percentage of the state population that has tested positive for COVID-19, as of February 4th, 2021. This information comes from the COVID Tracking Project. This is measured on a 0-100 scale (9.6 means 9.6% of the state's population has tested positive at some point during the pandemic). |
