Discussion-9
After completing the reading for this module, post any questions you have about correlation and regression. You could share a problem from Chapter 14 that you do not understand. In response to your peers, pick one of the problems presented by someone else and explain how you would solve it. Even if you do not know how to solve the whole problem, add some information to the question. Ideally, another student will be able to build on your response so that eventually all the questions will be answered.
Response one ( will be followed response two and three)
14.15 Gorilla ebola . An ebola virus outbreak in gorillas in the Congo from 2002 to 2003 killed 91 gorillas in 7 ranges. This table list ONSET date relative to the initiation of the outbreak and the number of home ranges separating the gorilla band from the initially infected band (DISTANCE):

(a) Which variable, DISTANCE or ONSET, is the independent variable in this analysis? Which is the dependent variable?
(b) Create a scatterplot of the data. Interpret what you see.
(c) Calculate correlation coefficient r. Then describe the strength of the association.
(d) What percent of the variance in ONSET is explained by DISTANCE.
(e) Use a regression model to predict how long on average it takes the outbreak to move from one gorilla band to an adjacent band.
