Experiment with Symmetric Cryptography
Starting an EC2 Instance
To start an EC2 Linux instance, log in to
your AWS Educate classroom and open
the AWS console.
Navigate to the EC2 dashboard and click
Launch instance as shown below.

Select the Amazon Linux 2 AMI 64-bit

Before launching, you will walk through
several steps to configure the EC2
instance. In most cases you can accept
the default values. However, be sure to
select the t.2 micro free-tier and then
click Review and Launch. Free-tier
eligible are generally denoted in green.

The next screen will display the
configuration selections. Review these
and then click Launch.

Prior to launching, you will be asked to
select or create a new key pair. AWS key
pairs are actual public-private key pairs
generated by AWS. Create a new key
pair, name it, and then download the
private key to your system. Be sure to
protect that private key.

Once the private key has been saved to
your desktop, click Launch Instances.
You can review the status of your
instance creation at any time by
navigating to the EC2 Instance
Dashboard and selecting Instances. Once
the instance is ready, the Instance State
column will display "running" and the
Status Checks column will display "2/2
checks passed."
