“Only buy something that you’d be perfectly happy to hold if the market shut down for ten years.”

- Warren Buffett

Last Three Week’s Activities

I maintained my account and sold and bought new trades as the StockTrak assignment recommended. My activity this past three weeks on StockTrak has been centered around the assignment's responsibilities while doing market research on what to buy and then buy or sell. The banking sector has been doing well, so I did invest a few dollars in that sector.

Current Position

Currently have 85 trades from 200 possible transactions. I’m ranked 1/17 with a portfolio return of 45.16% as of the time of writing this presentation, with a portfolio value of $1,450,745.82, and a buying power of $832,190.40.

Market Condition and Impact on Portfolio

This year's challenging backdrop for investors has been shaped by multiple headwinds hitting the economy and markets. Four-decade-high inflation, surging borrowing costs, lockdowns in China, a war in Ukraine, and bearish investor sentiment. While these challenges have persisted throughout the year. Here are ten recent highlights and reversals that might have impacted the market.

Following last month's rally, the Dow is now up more than 20% from its October low and down only about 5% from its all-time high. Of course, that doesn’t reflect the broader weakness in equities, which is better showcased by the Nasdaq's 27% decline1.

Cyclical sectors (excluding energy) outperformed defensives, and the average stock in the S&P 500 did better than the index, which was weighed down by the lagging mega-cap stocks.

Equity volatility plunged last month, pushing the VIX – the so-called fear index – back to its historical average (down to 20 from the March peak of 36).

U.S. taxable investment-grade bonds logged their best monthly return since 2008.

Municipal bonds posted their best monthly return since 1986.

Bucking this year's trend, longer-duration bonds outperformed shorter-duration bonds.

U.S. gasoline fell to its lowest price before Russia invaded Ukraine, with the daily national average at $3.47 from a peak of $5.00 in June.

The U.S. dollar had its worst month since 2010, depreciating 5% against a basket of other major currencies.

Chinese equities led global markets higher on reopening hopes. Hong Kong's main index rose 27% in November, the most since 1998.

International developed large-cap equities closed their performance gap with U.S. stocks, now down about 15% for the year.

Portfolio Summary

The Change based on the material covered

Based on the material covered in modules one to six, I would not have to change anything from what I have learned. But I would have been more adventurous in my purchase regarding values and quantity. With a 45.16% portfolio return, I believe that is an excellent return on investment.
