Alternative Exam Assessment January 2020

Instructions to candidates:
1) You must upload your answers to the following questions to Moodle by 12-noon on Friday 3
2) You must submit your answers using the submission option beside where you downloaded this assessment from on the ‘H3013 Psychology & Mental Health’ Moodle page. Therefore, you should strictly avoid copying and pasting blocks of text from your lecture notes, textbooks or online sources into your answers.
3) Section A: You must answer Question 1 – both parts of this question are compulsory. Your answer to this section should be approximately 1500-2000 words long in total.
4) Section B: You must answer Question 2 – both parts of this question are compulsory but note that each part contains an optional component. Your answer to this section should be approximately 1500-2000 words long in total.
5) Questions 1 & 2 are each worth 50 marks.
6) You should support the claims made in your answers using academic citations, and a bibliography listing all of the corresponding academic references for these citations.
NOTE: All relevant theory must be referenced, and a bibliography included at the end of your submission. You are expected to consult/reference a minimum of 5-6 books and/or articles per question. Your submission should be typed and with each topic on a separate page (i.e. clearly indicating what question is being answered in each case). A Humanities cover Sheet should be included within your assignment file. Please note that ‘Urkund’ plagiarism software will be used to ensure that your answers were written in your own words. Do not copy and paste blocks of text from books/website and then superficially reword it in your answers.

Question 1: (Compulsory)

a) Evaluate the relative strengths and weaknesses of positive psychology from the perspective of social care work practice. (25 marks)
b) Discuss how you would communicate with a service user about mental health diagnosis and treatment in a manner that empowers them. Please refer to established theory and methods in your answer. (25 marks)
