INSTRUCTIONS: Park Ranger Public Relations has been hired by Homer Simpson to promote a new sport known as Snow Triad. Simpson is founder and president of a nonprofit organization, More Olympic Sports Foundation (MOSF). Your job is to develop public relations materials to support his new sport. (Additional details can be found in the SS17 Scenario Brief on D2L.) In Writing Project 1, we developed a blog post to raise awareness of Snow Triad. In Writing Project 2, we drafted a letter to Sue Sylvester, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), informing her of the success of Snow Triad in Park City, Utah. Assumptions MOSF is going to host its 15th Snow Triad competition — a major milestone! The event is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Utah Olympic Park in Park City, UT. The competitions are growing in popularity and drawing large crowds of spectators. Your letter and subsequent meeting captured the attention of a Sue Sylvester, President of the IOC, who is planning to attend this particular competition to experience Snow Triad in person for the first time. Assignment Details Your task for Writing Project 3 is to develop a news release to introduce Snow Triad to the news media and announce the 15th competition at Utah Olympic Park. Remember, the news media is not familiar with Snow Triad. You are introducing it. To succeed, your news release must reflect the format and style elements described in your textbook and discussed in class. Your release must:
o Announce the 15th competition at Utah Olympic Park o explain who Simpson is and describe his organization o include key details about the event and the location. (Such details would be similar to
those developed in your blog post and good-news letter.) o include at least one quote each from Simpson and Sylvester o Promote the MOSF website and Facebook page
Other considerations: o Remember the inverted pyramid. o Remember that you can invent quotes for your speakers. In this case, you have no choice. o Remember who your target audience is. o Remember the news voice and attribution. o Remember to use AP style.
