Effects of Social Medias on People in Contemporary Society

For the discussion paper, I came out with a topic that Effects of social medias on people in contemporary society- Do they make people feel lonely and self-obsessed? Are peoples become crazier than ever? What are some positive trends on social medias people should encourage? All these questions above really interested me, and I think they are also very closely linked with our society or daily social life. I will use scientific method to study this topic. Ask questions I am interested in, do relevant research about the topic. Formulate a hypothesis, and combine the paper with my own experiences upon it.

At the same time, I personally think people can gain self-cognition by study this topic. In my opinion, social medias seize our idle time from so many great activities we do a lot in the past. Such as reading books, painting, and so on. All those things we used to do when we are alone, and these activities improve our self-recognition (positive, self-development). On the contrary, most things we do on social medias boost our self-obsessed (most time negative, self-doubt).

That dates back to the 1990s, when the internet was still coming of age. People really didn’t know what it was.

Eventually, people started to see the promise of the Internet.

Section 230 established that websites relying on user-generated content cannot be treated like publishers. This was a game-changer for the Internet.

Magazines, it’s like Instagram that you could hold.

Free speech was never on the table, even Twitter’s CEO, Jackie D, admitted it.

“This quote around free speech wing of the free speech party was never a mission of the company. It was never as a descriptor of the company that we gave ourselves. It was a joke.

Social media gets to be platform in the streets, and publisher in the sheets, and you can’t have it both ways.
