Net neutrality is the policy that requires Internet Service Providers to deliver information to customers at a similar speed, regardless of the content. Opponents of net neutrality would allow ISPs to charge companies to deliver some websites faster, arguing that ISPs should be allowed to charge however they like (Weiser, 2008). Proponents of net neutrality argue that the Internet has always had equal and unbiased access to information and that allowing ISPs to vary access to websites based on content is a new form of censorship. It is barely 20 years since the inception of the internet. The fast and reliable internet connection is slowly becoming a critical part of most people's lives. Since the web holds so much significance today, some individuals have the belief that the federal communication commission must act to keep the internet free and open (Hann, Robert & Scott, 2008). Internet Service Providers have blamed content and application providers for generating network congesting traffic that depletes the finite supply of available connectivity and destroys the Internet experience for all users. ISPs claim they ought to be allowed to efficiently manage their limited network bandwidth and to charge CAPs a higher fee for improved quality of service (Kramer, Lukas & Christof, 2013). This would involve ISPs using technology mechanisms such as content filtering and inspection to analyze data to determine the type of data that reaches different people based on certain criteria. While the skirmishing cavaliers of the network neutrality debate remain steadfast in their divergent camps, there is a fragile consensus emerging considering reports of an impending bandwidth crunch (Kramer, Lukas & Christof, 2013). Data that is provides by the network administrators should provide a quality experience for the consumers To allow ISPs to freely manage their networks, according to this group, will impart control over the content to ISPs who can selectively deny or degrade competing services, favor network-owned content and place unaffiliated CAPs at a competitive disadvantage (Kramer, Lukas & Christof, 2013). Effects Without net neutrality, ISPs may restrict the availability of certain web content as well as charging a lot of money for using bandwidth, and will intentionally slow down web content. Therefore, they have adopted the idea of web neutrality, which implies that the government must act to prevent ISPs from engaging in the aforementioned practices. Net neutrality will restrict internet feed and privacy. Thus, ensuring that ISPs should acquire permission to access and use the personal content of people. This will protect consumers of internet products from hackers and conmen who prey on readily available personal data of people on the internet. With net neutrality ISPs will not be able to restrict the flow of data this means that data will be streaming continuously; therefore, they would not be able to control the flow of data in their Systems. Failing to control the flow of data in the system will lead to a system crash that will adversely affect the business due to the losses they will incur. Web-based businesses generate income from internet traffic. Slow download speeds and impediments to the internet will cost them a lot of money because web users may now decide to visit a different website or webpage instead of waiting for one to load. Net neutrality reduces the amount of money spent on the internet, for an average internet user who accesses various sites net neutrality helps them access the websites without having to make any subscriptions. However, if net neutrality is abolished people will have to pay more to access the internet. Net neutrality improves IT efficiency as it helps different individual people and businesses from startups to established global business to effectively provide services for their clients. With net neutrality, people have a level playing field in accessing knowledge that can help improve the way of life and effectiveness of Information that we consume. Because internet service providers are not allowed to favor a specific website all the information on the internet is equally accessible to all, making Information technology efficient.
