ENGL 1711 03
Your final paper is a 4–5-page argumentative research paper. It has to be based on a controversial topic. Writing an academic paper about a controversy is different from an oral debate about an issue of morality or opinion. You have to back up both sides of the argument with valid, objective, and reliable points that are more than just someone’s opinion or belief. Please consider the following ideas. I ask that your argumentative research paper follow the general topic ideas of 1-10 below. I will consider other ideas provided you clear them with me first; however, the following list represents topics that will not be acceptable for this paper: abortion, gun control, the death penalty, legalizing marijuana, or GLBTQ rights. You have to able to argue both sides of the issue, and most people who are arguing these types of topics, cannot see the validity of the other side.
Because summer semester is so condensed, you don't have the luxury of putting off the decision about your topic. The annotated bibliography assignment due during week six requires that you have selected the topic of your final paper. In addition to the 4–5-page requirement of your final paper, you have to include research from articles from the college database. After reading the first ten pages of chapter 18, considering these topics, and reading the additional items associated with topic selection, please submit your topic idea to the assignment folder on Wednesday, July 6th by 11:59 p.m.
