Anthropological Monograph in a Culture (AMC) Usually, an anthropological monograph is a manuscript, an article, or an essay of roughly 50,000 to 150,000 words dedicated to a particular subjectmatter and its data were gathered from fieldwork. Anthropological monograph is a part of ethnography. Ethnography is a written document about the entire life ways of a specific culture group.
For this assignment, the class will work on an outlined ethnography that includes only those essential aspects of the culture. There is no specific number of pages. Number of pages depends on your answers on all the items. A list of indigenous culture groups is posted in Module 1 from which each student will choose from. Choose only one indigenous culture group for this assignment.
The last part of this outlined ethnography is going to be a simple monograph of a special topic chosen by the student from the life ways of the people he or she is studying. For example, if the student chose the Inuit people for his or her AMC, the special topic should be from the Inuits like seal-hunting methods or any interesting topic from the Inuits. If the student is studying the Hopi Indians for his or her AMC, an interesting topic could be the art of making pottery, and so on. If the student is studying the Koreans for his or her AMC, an interesting topic could be baby- naming tradition among the Koreans.
Doing this assignment requires a thoughtful research and critical choosing of data. It is a must that all data used are affixed with citations (in-text citations and references). You can use APA or MLA citation format.
