Organization: Writing Task
In the second part of our course, our teams discussed the difficulties facing immigrants,
including the Grande family, in their immigrant story. Each immigrant story that we have
examined has a protagonist (main character) and a team that has influenced the decision of
families to migrate.
In the first paragraph (❡), describe the push and pull factors in your own and/or your family’s
decision to come to the United States.
1. Introduce the key terms, push and pull, and define them for the reader.
• Try using one of these phrases to introduce the article information:
i. According to (author’s full name) in the article (title in quotes) _________...
ii. In the article (title in quotes) _________ the author (full name)________
explains that...
2. Explain two (2) to three (3) pull and/or push factors that caused your migration. Tell
whether the factors that caused your migration are push factors or pull factors.
In the second paragraph (❡), identify and analyze the push and/or pull factors that influenced
the Grande family’s (from The Distance Between Us) choice to emigrate from Mexico. Should
Reyna’s parents have stayed with the three children? Why or why not?
In the third paragraph (❡), analyze the most pressing/prominent/important theme and explain
why this theme appears in all of this module’s materials. How does this affect immigration?
