The student performed the DISC assessment provided from this course material. Student also sent the Mentor’s 360 Interview to Heath, C. but questions were answered not as if the mentor was sitting across from student but was answered from the mentor’s assessment of self.
1. What Guiding Purpose Statement will govern your relationship with God in the midst of every relational context?
· Desiring to be more like Christ, this student strives to be more consistent with his efforts of fulfilling the verbal and non-verbal desires of his wife.
· Carbonell (2008) suggests that this student’s relational style is a blend between C/I/S which implies that the student is both outgoing and reserve as well as both active and passive which will require that the student will have to be more active than passive to accomplish this relationship goal as the student lives out Eph. 5:21-33 KJV (p. 195).
2. In light of your DISC style, point out how you will shift your style (i.e., find common ground; 1 Cor. 9) to align with each of the four primary styles?
· Cabornell (2008) suggests that the “C/I/S” personality can be caring, thinking, and problem solving (p. 194). These qualities are helpful as the student seeks to relate to other personalities with in the DISC assessment. In an effort of this student to be able to relate to the “D” personality, the student will have to take on more demanding and assertive personality as well as be more direct and out-spoken as to not be viewed as weak (Carbonell, 2008, pg. 19-22). Because the student is a blend of C/I/S personalities on the assessment, the student must seek to enhances these relationships by not falling into the negative qualities of each of the personalities, so the student can be effective in maintaining a proper relationship (Carbonell, 2008, p. 25-196).
· The leadership profile shows the breakdown of each of the personalities side by side which aids the student to be effective in seeing the student from the qualities of the assessment and get a broader view of the others as well. Furthermore, it would be ideal for the student to study the “Needs to Learn” portion of each personality so the student will be able to live out 1 Cor. 9:22 KJV.
Harris & Eikenberry (2018) liken the personalities to those of four birds; eagle for the “D”, parrot for “I”, dove for “S”, and owl for “C” which gives further insight into the need for the student to be able to take flight consistently and appropriately. Petersen (2015) argues the need for individuals to communicate so he/she can connect on a deeper level through the ability of listening, this student must move from being just a listener to a communicating listener.
3. Point out how will you communicate and connect with a predetermined care-seeker from the case study?
· The student has chosen the father, Bruce for the case study from the movie, Crossroads.
· Based on Carbonell (2008) the student has assessed the father (Bruce) as being a blended personality of “D/I/C” (pg. 179-184).
· Petersen (2015) suggests that a good technique to utilize when speaking with Bruce is that of technique #20 “after a death” (pg. 175-178). The student will apply the principles founded in this narrative to ensure that the student comes alongside Bruce by apply God’s Word in Matt. 5:4 KJV and 2 Cor. 1:3-4 KJV. The student will focus on listening to Bruce as long as it takes and not be so focused on bringing food to the home while understanding that anger may be present when speaking with him (Petersen, 2015, p. 175-178). The student will further apply what in found in Scripture about the tone of the student while seeing to listen to Bruce (Prov. 15:1 KJV).
· The student will be calculating and decisive as the student seeks to establish rapport with Bruce so healthy change can come about (Carbonell, 2008, pg. 179-183).
4. Point out how will you communicate and connect with your mentor?
·
·
Based on the personality of the mentor, the student will not take the straightforward nature of the mentor personally and pay close attention to times when the mentor is withdrawn as to seek opportunities to find out what has caused the disconnect so the student can maintain the needed connect to finish the task at hand. The student will further seek to know that mentor in hopes to bring down the guard of the mentor to become someone that the mentor can be comfortable being around.
Nichols (2017) argues perspective changes everything (pg. 13-15). This statement will assist the student in better seeing the student’s personality no longer as a weakness but from the strengths of the student’s personality. This assessment has convicted and convinced the student to strive harder in meeting relational needs of the student and the need of others connected to the student. The student is further convinced to “put off” any and all excuses and/or resistances that may be present to better connect with the Master and communicate with others (Nichols, 2017, pg. 31-33).
