I. Situational Analysis. A picture of where the company is now including goal
performance, the 5 S’s (Sell, Serve, Sizzle, Speak, Save), customer insights, situational
analysis (SWOT), brand perceptions, internal capabilities and resources.
II. Objectives. Identifying the long and short‐term objectives of the company. This section
includes the organizational mission and vision statements and the 5 S’s:
Sell – sales and market share
Serve – customer service
Sizzle – WOW factor
Speak – dialogue or trialogue
Save – quantifiable efficiency gains
III. Strategy. This section identifies how to get from the current situation to the long and
short‐term objectives including segmentation, targeting, and positioning (STP), online
value proposition (OVP), sequence (credibility before visibility), integrations, and tools.
IV. Tactics. The tactics will identify how to implement the strategy including the e‐
marketing mix, social networking, integrated marketing communications (IMC) strategy.
V. Action. This phase of the marketing plan will allocate specific functions and tasks within
a timeline, identify if internal or external resources will be used, and assess the
company’s systems and processes.
VI. Control. The marketing plan’s performance must be monitored to ensure it is
performing according to expectations. Specific monitoring includes the 5 S’s + web
analytics, key performance indicators (KPI), visibility testing, mystery shopping,
customer satisfaction surveys, site visitor profiling, frequency of reporting, and a
process for reporting and the actions.
