I was interested in the shame resilience theory which is a new theoretical model that contributes to us understanding the emotional factors that affect a woman's development. This theory can be attributed to Bren'e Brown and her research of the shame in women's lives(Robbins, Chatterjee, & Canda, 2012). Society develops its own set of norms and standards and standards for acceptable behavior of individuals leading many to say morality is culturally conditioned(Termini, Golden, Lyndon, & Sheaffer, 2009). However, Browns theory claims that if a woman feels she is unworthy of belonging or being accepted because the fear of a flaw or not being like others. This can lead women into problems like anxiety, grief, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, etc. Society continues to discriminate against the gay community. Someone who is gay does not fit in what is a morally fit society(Robbins, Chatterjee, & Canda, 2012).

I think society expects certain ways of living and moral understandings. A person who is intelligent will be expected by society to know morals and how to live. Someone who is not considered intelligent who may have a developmental disability or intellectual disability may not understand the morals of society as someone who is intelligent. Society will expect an intelligent person to fit the bill and live morally. Social Workers need to understand this because knowing the intelligence of a person helps assess and gives them a clue of what could be going on and what is causing this. Drugs, poverty, depression, eating disorders, low-self-esteem, anxiety, could explain why someone with intelligence would not live morally. Social workers need to find that client's strengths, what resources are in their life, their support system. Social workers can build on the strengths the client already has. Social Workers can build on improving the self-esteem of a client by referring them to group. Setting realistic goals for their clients and assisting them on completing them (Robbins, Chatterjee, & Canda,2012).

I believe that intelligence relates to moral development by the experience and maturity of a person. As a person obtains knowledge then the moral development progresses. "Advancement through stages is motivated by two main factors. First is a cognitive disequilibrium that develops due to the progressive awareness of one’s own inadequacies in moral reasoning. Second is the advances in perspective taking that result from an increased capacity to understand others' viewpoints" (Robbins,Chatterjee,Canda, 2012, pg. 277). This is the Lawrence Kohlberg theory. He believes there are six stages in the moral development. "the highest moral stage, the universal ethical principle orientation, there is the emergence of truly autonomous morality based on individual conscience. Broad moral guidelines are based on abstract principles such as justice, compassion, equality, and human dignity. The development of true conscience based on such principles transcends any legal formulations that conflict with these larger moral guidelines" (Robbins,Chatterjee,Canda, 2012, pg. 278).

A theory of intelligence I selected is Howard Gardner theory. "His theory attempts to expand the areas of cognitive and developmental psychology by delineating a variety of skills and capacities that display cognitive competence. He defines intelligence as a psychologically and neurally based computational capacity to process a certain kind of information (2006)" (Robbins,Chatterjee,Canda, 2012, pg. 270). His theory basically states that people have difference levels of intelligence and people use them differently. As in regard to strength perspective, I would say determining the client's strength and developing that strength. As a social worker, we need to assess the client and determine how to acknowledge the client's abilities and maximum for the best results for the client.

Hey great post!

Great viewpoint on your choice of theory! While using this theory, you will be able to assess the strengths and weaknesses while being able to pick appropriate and different intervention. As social workers, our main goal is to view things from a generalist perspective because it focuses on different perspectives, methods, and skills from several different angles when trying to assist clients. Also, this will help address and understand the specifics of things different system levels which will allow you to engage actively and find the scope and resolution towards the all these issues individuals are facing! Great post!
