This exercise shows that ethnicity, race, as well as gender, are social constructs because of the idea of gender, race as well as ethnicity persists in the mind of individuals, but in the real sense race, gender as well as ethnicity do not exist (Ritchie 2020).

In 1790 US held their first census and they had three categories of races which were slaves, all other free persons as well as free whites (Ruggles & Magnuson 2020). In 2010 people were allowed to choose two or more races, that is a Negro, African American as well as black or American Indian and Alaska Native.

A race is a set of people that are viewed as superior or weak based on their physical features that can be factual or unproven, on the other hand, ethnicity refers to a group of people identified through their cultural background (Kendall 2018). Racial practices are rampant in the Us as evident in the American sports where players are selected based on their skin color, the African Americans are denied the opportunity to play in the major leagues (Schwartz 2020).

The better future categories of the census should be black or whites only, and people should be allowed to write their country of origin.

Racial and ethnicity should be viewed as a social construct so as to bring different races to work together in peace and harmony thus promoting peace and unity (Murray 2020).

In conclusion census in United States has helped to know different categories of racial groups living in the US. The US government should continue with the census program.
