1. The second shift refers to the work at home parents, mostly women, do after their jobs. The work at home refers to taking care of children by feeding them and doing homework with them and other responsibilities such as cleaning. My mom is a working woman and because it was more her responsibility to take care of us and the household chores, she would go to bed at night extremely tired. After working a tiring 8 to 9 hour day, she would come home and cook meals for the whole house, do homework with us and clean the house because she has always hated having any type of mess in the house, no matter how small. This is referred to as the second shift because taking care of household needs is a job within itself and it's done after a paid work day
2. Second shift refers to the household chores and childcare duties that mostly women do together with a day's work. This household chores comprising of cleaning, laundry, cooking, and taking care of the family. My mom will wake up early in the morning as early as 5am to take care of kids, giving shower and get us ready for school before go to work. In the afternoon after closing at work, she has to come and pick us and take us home. On getting home, she has to cook for us and clean the house, no matter how tired she is. She has to do all this after 8 hours shift at work. Imagine doing this everyday during the week. Even on weekend, she has a lot to do because she has to do whatever left behind especially cleaning the surround of the house and all the laundry that used during the week.
3. The "second shift" is when a woman works a full time job and then has to come home every day to another full time job of being a mother and a wife. She has to prepare dinner, feed the family, help the kids with any homework if they have it, and then get everyone ready for bed. My mother has always worked a full time job, so she would get up early, wake my sister and I up, get us ready to go to school, drop us off, go to work for 8 hours. Then she would STILL have to come home and cook dinner, clean the kitchen, give us some time, and get us ready for bed. She never really had much time for herself. That's why now as an adult, I do whatever I can to help my mother out. She always worked hard for us and never complained. As a mother having to work all day and then come home to that "second shift" is very exhausting.
4. The” second shift” refers to women having to come home after a long day off work, and maintaining the balance of taking care of the household and children, etc. For example, this is something my mother experienced she has been dealing with for many years without having the help of my father. My mother worked 3 jobs than having to come home and cook, clean, and take care of 3 children at home. Later my father got sick, that was then another responsibility she had to take care of because we were all too young at the time there was never a time my mother really had a break, but later my older brother stepped up and was the man around the house and played that father role, which put things little at ease for my mother. Now that I am older I try to take as much responsibility that way my mother wouldn't have to. Most of these women do not get enough credit for the things they do. It is very difficult to be a parent without having that extra hand to help.
5. The second shift is when a person comes home,, generally a mother, from working all day and has to take care of house hold duties. House hold duties for example are cooking, cleaning , and caring for the children. My mother is a perfect example. She always comes home to do things that my dad normally does not like the the cooking park. granted he does other jobs around the house, but still my mother would have to come home from a longer day and do it. Even both her children are old enough to care for ourselves, she will stil worry about cooking for us then cleaning up after .
