Changing nature of work

The self-explanatory titled article, ‘Flexi-work scheme for firms extended and enhanced’, elaborates on the enhancement of the existing flexi-work scheme available to employers in Singapore. Such enhancements include employers having lesser scheme requirements which makes it easier to qualify for the grant, the amount of the Work-Life Grant will be increased per employee, and finally, higher incentives per employee for job sharing engagement. The purpose of this enhanced scheme is to ease way for employers to get grant to help groups such as mums to return to work.

Personally, this scheme provides greater work-life balance as parents and employees in general have the flexibility to work from home without enduring the guilt and stress from being physically away from their work place. Furthermore, the scheme empowers women in the workforce to be able to fulfil their roles as a parent, employee, and an individual, without having to bare the full burden and sacrifice of time, money, and energy. This might also help level the playing field in terms of inequality in the workforce.

The anomie phenomenon might be experienced less as greater work-life balance should be achieved. The result should be happier employees, which in turn produce better productivity and better working attitudes.
